Gum rosin · Colofónia
Gum rosin (colofónia) is the non-volatile fraction of pine resin. It is solid at room temperature and yellowish in colour.
It consists of resin acids — mainly abietic acid — and is one of the most important natural raw materials used by the chemical industry.
Every lot is tested against the requirements that define its quality: colour evaluation, acid number, softening point and crystallisation, among others.
Product formats
Flakes, crushed and block

History & uses
Rosin has been tapped from living pine trees for centuries. It was the backbone of the old naval stores trade, where resin and pitch sealed and protected wooden ships.
Today gum rosin remains a renewable, plant-derived feedstock, collected without felling the trees and distilled to separate turpentine from the solid rosin fraction.
